Gallery delivery
Handoff Galleries can publish previews first
A project can now move from finished edits into Handoff Galleries. Add Previews, Highlights, All photos, or your own scenes, check the design, then update the same gallery link as the finished photographs are ready.
Publish previews first, then add the full gallery to the same link
Open, copy, and manage gallery links from their wedding projects
Private storage serves only approved thumbnails and 2500px previews
Build note
This is a working development milestone, not the finished Handoff Galleries service. Client sign-in, email delivery, full-resolution downloads, Client Save completion, renewals, billing, custom domains, and production upload security are still to come.
More detail
Start from Editing
Completing Editing can open Gallery setup with the project name and wedding date already filled in.
Scenes stay in order
Previews, Highlights, and All photos follow the delivery order, with extra named scenes available when the wedding needs them.
One link, two stages
A preview delivery can go out first. The finished photographs can then update the same gallery, link, and access dates.
Private image delivery
The public gallery can request only photographs listed in its checked manifest. Storage paths and original files are not exposed.
Galleries stay with projects
Development galleries can be found, opened, copied, and managed from the wedding they belong to.
August 28 - 29, 2026
Editing handoff
Editing now comes back to Handoff cleanly
Handoff now carries a project's saved Lightroom preset into Editing, checks that it is still the right file, and guides the finished photographs back from Adobe Lightroom Classic. Once the final edit check is complete, Gallery is next.
Existing Files can start Cull & Edit or Edit Only straight away
Each project keeps and checks the exact Lightroom preset used
Supported final exposure and tone changes return for local profile learning
Build note
The current Handoff Lightroom plug-in is required. Handoff stops before changing a project if the plug-in, preset, catalogue, photo list, or return receipt does not match.
More detail
The preset travels with the project
Handoff applies the saved colour preset when the selected photographs move into Adobe Lightroom Classic, then checks that Lightroom used it on the right files.
Existing Files can begin at Culling
Cull & Edit and Edit Only projects can now start from photographs that are already on the Mac without adding an Ingest & Backup step.
Missing presets are caught early
If a project's preset was removed or changed, Handoff pauses Editing and asks for the original XMP before it continues.
Completing Editing is guided
Handoff checks the returned photographs, explains what it found, and lets you keep editing, check again, or complete the stage.
Lightroom returns to Handoff
The final check can bring Handoff back to the front and save supported exposure and tone changes for local profile learning. Masks, healing, and unsupported adjustments are left alone.
August 27 - 28, 2026
Developer performance
Developer preview feels faster and steadier
The Developer preview now reuses work already done during Culling, prepares nearby photographs, and holds onto the right frame as you move. Crop, sliders, thumbnails, menus, and notifications were tightened through the same pass.
Cull-built previews appear sooner while full edits prepare in the background
Grid and filmstrip navigation no longer reload or show the previous photograph
Crop movement, resize, rotation, thumbnails, and menu rollovers behave consistently
Build note
Developer is still a standalone preview, and Adobe Lightroom Classic remains the recommended project finishing route. This work hardens speed and interaction without presenting Developer as finished.
More detail
Useful previews arrive sooner
Developer can reuse previews prepared during Culling, then replace them with the full edit when it is ready.
Navigation keeps its place
Moving through the grid or filmstrip no longer reloads the full strip or leaves the previous photograph on screen.
Corrections no longer flash
A photograph now waits for the right preview instead of briefly showing an uncorrected frame during navigation.
Crop stays with the photograph
Move, resize, rotation, dimming, entry, and thumbnail behaviour now follow the settled crop without stale overlays or uncovered edges.
Controls give clearer feedback
Menus now use consistent rollovers and action icons, while notices take up only the space their message needs.
August 23, 2026
Project workflow
Project rows now lead the workflow
Projects is the sidebar home, and every wedding row now keeps the stage, progress, and next useful action together. Cover choices load from a small, cached set so the screen stays quick as projects grow.
Open Handoff into Projects
Start or resume the next stage from the wedding row
Choose from six local cover suggestions without loading the full wedding
Build note
Cover suggestions use small on-device previews and never change Culling or Picking results. This pass also keeps menus and project layouts usable as the window narrows.
More detail
Projects is home
Handoff now opens around the wedding list, with Calendar, Post Builder, Tools, and Settings kept as supporting destinations.
The row shows what is next
Each project row brings its progress, current stage, status, and next action into one place instead of sending you through another screen first.
Cover choices stay quick
The picker keeps six small portrait suggestions, favours recognisable couple photographs, and reuses safe cached results when it opens again.
Narrow layouts hold together
Projects and Developer respond more cleanly to the available width, and menus no longer begin with a misleading focus highlight.
August 23, 2026
Studio tools
The tools around each wedding get more useful
A new on-device video fix can recover supported interrupted Sony recordings as MP4 files. Coldframe, Recall, Post Builder, and Instagram Scheduler also received practical changes that keep more of the wedding workflow together.
Recover supported Sony H.264 RSV recordings without changing the original
Create and check Coldframe DNGs while the source RAWs stay untouched
Move completed 4x5 carousels from Post Builder into Instagram Scheduler
Build note
The video tool currently supports Sony raw-GOP H.264 RSV files only; HEVC and MXF are not supported. Coldframe checks the installed converter before it starts and keeps every source RAW by default.
More detail
Fix interrupted recordings
Choose a supported Sony RSV, see how much complete video and audio Handoff found, then save a new MP4 while the original stays untouched.
Coldframe explains the archive
Add the RAWs, check the converter, choose a destination, and follow each verified DNG through one calmer archive screen.
Recall adds a wedding shortcut
The shortcut editor now keeps the wedding details, reusable text, paste preview, and length checks together.
Post Builder adds format guides
Bundled 4x5 and 9x16 guides make it easier to prepare carousel and story layouts at the right size.
Completed carousels keep moving
Post Builder can remember finished folders and open Instagram Scheduler when a new 4x5 carousel is ready.
August 14 - 23, 2026
Culling safety
Culling stays conservative while new ideas are tested
The supported Handoff build now leaves research-only model weights and an old research helper out of the app. The live picker keeps its current commercial-safe, on-device baseline while motion, pose, face, and scene ideas are measured separately.
Research-only semantic weights are no longer packaged with the supported app
Current grouping keeps its pinned, reproducible on-device model
New pose and semantic checks stay report-only until separate weddings prove them
Build note
This is a safety and provenance milestone, not a culling accuracy claim. Motion-blur and camera-sync tests remain behind internal flags, and normal app runs stay on the supported baseline.
More detail
Supported builds are checked
A distribution check now stops unsupported model files and old research helpers from entering a signed Handoff build.
The baseline stays put
The supported picker keeps its existing local grouping path. New semantic and pose ideas cannot change normal selections while they are still being measured.
Motion blur is tested in isolation
A narrow test can reorder intentional motion-blur choices without changing the wider coverage rules. It stays off in normal app runs.
Camera-sync frames get a separate check
A candidate can reject opening time-check photographs even when a screen contains a person or interface artwork. It still needs a fresh full wedding run before promotion.
August 13, 2026
Culling benchmark
Culling gets a tougher real-wedding test
The latest culling candidate improves how Handoff reads visual detail, burst timing, closed eyes, expressions, and pose changes. It is being measured against reviewed weddings before any of it becomes the live picker.
Sub-second capture times keep fast bursts in the right order
Closed eyes, talking, pose changes, and near-duplicates are judged more carefully
Adobe Lightroom Classic pick markers now preserve existing ratings and colour labels
Build note
This is a benchmark candidate, not a claimed accuracy win. It still needs a fresh full-gallery run and checks against separate weddings before it can replace the current culling baseline.
More detail
Visual input fixed
The test build now reads its on-device image analysis in the correct format and prepares each frame without stretching it.
Burst order protected
Capture-time subseconds are kept, so fast sequences no longer collapse onto the same whole-second timestamp.
People checks tightened
Closed eyes stay distinct from missing eye data, talking risk is harder to average away, and pose changes have clearer weight inside longer portrait groups.
Selection variety improved
Near-duplicates are compared with the closest chosen frame, while longer portrait sequences can keep a more useful mix of scale and pose without adding extra picks.
Lightroom markers corrected
The handoff now writes standard Adobe Lightroom Classic pick values and changes only the chosen marker, leaving unrelated ratings and colour labels alone.
August 13, 2026
Finishing workflow
Developer preview and Lightroom handoff are clearer
Handoff Developer remains available as a standalone preview while Adobe Lightroom Classic is the recommended finishing route for projects. The app now makes that status clear during onboarding, setup, and daily use.
Adobe Lightroom Classic is the recommended project finishing route
Developer can still open as a standalone preview from Tools
Login, the app shell, Calendar, and window edges received a visual tidy-up
Build note
Developer is still being built and is not presented as a finished project stage. Photographers can explore it without changing the dependable Lightroom handoff used for real work.
More detail
An honest finishing choice
Onboarding and project setup now recommend Adobe Lightroom Classic and clearly mark Handoff Developer as coming soon.
Standalone Developer preview
Developer can open from Tools, restore the last available session, then close back to the previous part of Handoff.
Small visual fixes
The login wordmark, Calendar layout, app shell spacing, and outer window corners were tightened so the interface sits more naturally inside macOS.
August 10, 2026
Workflow polish
Project setup and Developer controls are easier to use
The project-first workflow received a focused usability pass across Ingest & Backup, project dashboards, Settings, and Developer, with clearer choices and fewer fragile interactions.
Ingest & Backup separates the backup plan from the culling and editing plan
Project covers, breadcrumbs, and settings are easier to find and change
Developer panels, filmstrip, crop controls, and matched RAW lens corrections feel steadier
Build note
This pass did not change the safety rules behind copying, verification, or finishing. It makes those decisions easier to see and keeps the controls dependable when the workspace is resized.
More detail
A clearer start
Cull & Edit projects can move from the wedding details straight into the Memory Cards workflow. Ingest & Backup confirms the photographs and required local copies before showing the culling, editing, and finishing plan.
Backup rules stay visible
Working and backup copies must be checked before cards are safe to eject. Optional Dropbox work can continue in the background without holding up the next stage.
Choose a project cover
Project dashboards can suggest portrait photographs with detected faces, making it quicker to choose a recognisable cover for each wedding.
Developer resizing fixed
Side panels and the filmstrip gained clearer resize areas and cursors, with gaps removed so dragging feels more predictable.
Matched lens corrections
Supported RAW and DNG files can start with matched distortion and lens-vignetting corrections. Finished JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and HEIC files stay untouched so corrections are not applied twice.
Settings tidied
Workflow defaults, backups, culling, editing, finishing, galleries, social tools, appearance, and account choices are grouped more clearly.
August 7, 2026
Private beta
The project-first workflow is ready for private beta
Handoff now opens around the wedding itself. Set the project up once, then follow backup, culling, editing, finish, gallery, social, and archive without rebuilding the job or working out which tool comes next.
Projects is now home, with one clear route from source photographs to archive
Verified local backups unlock safe eject before Handoff continues into Culling and Editing
Interrupted work can recover cleanly, with Developer and Lightroom kept inside the same project
Build note
This is the point where the new structure stops feeling like a collection of screens and starts working as one workflow. The app has been exercised with real hardware, wedding-scale folders, relaunches, and both finishing routes before it reaches beta testers.
More detail
Set the wedding up once
A named project now carries the source photographs, saved destinations, workflow plan, progress, and next action from the first copy through to the final archive.
Safe progress without babysitting
Card safety follows verified local copies rather than a progress percentage. Once those copies are secure, Handoff can continue into Culling and Editing while optional Dropbox work finishes separately.
Ready for working photographers
The private-beta candidate has been checked with an 801-file, two-destination workflow, relaunch and recovery paths, Handoff Developer, and the installed Lightroom Classic handoff. Returning from Developer also keeps the project and sidebar state intact.
August 6, 2026
Product direction
Handoff returns to the clarity of its July interface
As Handoff grew, the interface had started to drift from the original idea: a fast, simple, and distinctive place for the work after the wedding. The July interface is back, updated around the current workflow to restore clarity without losing the app's personality.
July sidebar and workspace structure restored across the app
Projects puts progress and the next useful action into one clear scan
Speed, simplicity, and visual character return to the centre of Handoff
Build note
This was a deliberate course correction. More capability should not make Handoff feel heavier or more generic. The renewed interface keeps the product moving forward while holding onto its original promise: simple, fast, no fuss, and built to give photographers their time back.
More detail
The original idea came back into focus
The later interface direction had become too distant from the fast, focused app Handoff set out to be. Returning to the July foundation restores that original intent without discarding the workflow work built since then.
Projects became easier to scan
Wedding progress, current stages, and the next useful action now sit together in a clearer Projects workspace, reducing the time spent working out what needs attention.
Visual character serves the workflow
The stronger Handoff colour, clearer hierarchy, and more distinctive workspace bring personality back to the app while keeping every interaction direct and purposeful.
August 2, 2026
Edit authority
Developer gains compare, crop, and multi-image control
The latest Developer pass gives photographers more authority over how images are reviewed and refined, with a clearer before-and-after view, stronger crop interaction, and multi-image editing that stays predictable across a wedding set.
Before-and-after comparison added for faster, clearer edit decisions
Crop interaction refined with steadier geometry and safer selection behaviour
Multi-image edits keep authority visible across a selected set
Build note
This pass focused on making editing decisions feel deliberate: photographers can compare the change, adjust the frame, and apply work across a set without losing track of what is selected or what will change.
More detail
Compare view strengthened
A clearer before-and-after presentation was added so photographers can judge an edit in context instead of relying on memory or repeated toggling.
Crop behaviour tightened
Crop and straighten interactions were refined around stable geometry, clearer handles, and safer transitions between image views.
Multi-image authority added
Selected images can now share edit decisions more deliberately, with clearer selection state and fewer surprises when moving between individual and grouped work.
August 1 - 2, 2026
Developer workflow
Grid view and workspace performance move forward
Developer was tightened for larger wedding sets, with a more capable grid view, smoother image hydration, safer navigation, and stronger resource boundaries while photographers move through a job.
Grid view improved for reviewing larger image sets
Preview hydration and viewer geometry made more stable under load
Navigation, selection, memory, and export paths covered by regression checks
Build note
The goal was to make the workspace feel dependable at wedding scale: images should arrive cleanly, selection should stay understandable, and moving between views should not make photographers babysit the interface.
More detail
Grid hydration improved
Grid loading and preview hydration were tuned so larger folders can become useful sooner without asking the whole set to load at once.
Viewer geometry stabilised
Image framing and workspace geometry were tightened so switching between grid, filmstrip, and detailed views feels consistent.
Regression coverage expanded
Navigation, selection, resource budgets, preview performance, editing interactions, and export behaviour received broader checks before acceptance.
July 29, 2026
Developer engine
Developer gets a deeper photographic rendering pass
Developer moved forward with a new photographic rendering foundation, bringing steadier neutral colour, stronger tone behaviour, and more natural presence and colour controls into the editing workspace.
Neutral render foundation rebuilt for more trustworthy starting images
Basic tone, exposure, shadows, highlights, whites, and blacks refined
Presence and colour controls moved onto a stronger photographic engine
Build note
This was deep engine work rather than surface polish: the goal was to make Developer feel more dependable before heavier editing decisions are made, with clearer render routes, stronger tests, and a steadier foundation for real wedding files.
More detail
Neutral foundation rebuilt
The render path was rebuilt around a cleaner neutral starting point, so RAW files arrive in Developer with a more reliable base before edits are applied.
Basic tone refined
Exposure and core tone behaviour moved into the new engine, giving the main light controls a steadier relationship with the image.
Presence controls strengthened
Texture, clarity, and dehaze work moved forward so local contrast and depth changes feel more controlled inside the Developer workspace.
Colour controls moved forward
Vibrance, saturation, and colour behaviour were expanded with dedicated tests so stronger colour work can build on a cleaner foundation.
July 26, 2026
Gallery delivery
Galleries moves into a working MVP
Galleries moved from planned delivery work into a real workspace for preparing finished weddings, organising gallery photos, and shaping a calmer client-delivery path inside Handoff.
Gallery workspace added with lifecycle, project, and photo models
Masonry gallery layout introduced for finished wedding images
Introductory gallery screen expanded into a fuller product moment
Build note
This is the first practical version of Galleries: enough structure to prove the delivery workflow while keeping the focus on finished weddings, simple presentation, and a connected Handoff experience.
More detail
Gallery MVP added
A dedicated Galleries workspace was added so finished weddings can move toward client delivery without leaving the Handoff workflow.
Photo layout refined
Gallery photos moved into a masonry-style layout so mixed image shapes feel more natural and less like a rigid file grid.
Gallery introduction improved
The first-run gallery experience was expanded into a fuller hero screen, making the delivery stage feel clearer before a gallery is built.
Access messages cleaned up
Temporary gallery access messages were tightened so the workspace feels calmer after permissions or setup states change.
July 21 - 26, 2026
Workflow foundation
Ingest, backup, editing, and onboarding get a stronger base
The wider Handoff workflow was hardened around getting weddings into the app, protecting catalogue data, keeping edits recoverable, and making the core workspaces feel steadier under real wedding volume.
Ingest and Backup workflow added with safer project setup
Dropbox connection added for direct offsite backup
Catalogue backup and recovery foundation introduced
Build note
This pass was about trust before flash: safer setup, stronger recovery paths, steadier previews, and fewer moments where photographers have to wonder whether Handoff has kept up with the job.
More detail
Ingest and Backup added
The Ingest workspace gained the first version of the workflow for bringing a wedding into Handoff and preparing it before deeper post-wedding work begins.
Dropbox online backup connected
Photographers can connect their own Dropbox account and send an offsite copy directly from Ingest, while the verified working and complete backup copies keep the rest of the Handoff workflow moving.
Catalogue protection improved
Backup, recovery, and mirrored edit data work moved forward so Handoff has a stronger foundation for protecting project state.
Developer stayed moving
Developer continued to gain steadier preview behaviour, smoother filmstrip transitions, and stronger performance boundaries while edits are being reviewed.
Setup friction reduced
Recurring backup prompts were reduced and onboarding/settings work was tightened so setup feels less noisy during normal use.
July 20, 2026
Developer workspace
Developer becomes a pro-level editing workspace
Developer moved from an early editing direction into a serious in-app workspace for reviewing, refining, and finishing more of the wedding edit inside Handoff.
Sharper preview and viewer behaviour for detailed image review
16-bit editing pipeline hardened for colour, tone, detail, and finishing tools
Crop, straighten, histogram, subject mask, grain, and detail controls moved forward
Build note
This work was about making Developer feel calm, fast, and trustworthy under real editing pressure: clear navigation, resilient previews, measured performance, and controls that stay close to the Handoff workflow.
More detail
Viewer workflow polished
The main image viewer gained stronger navigation, detail handling, and recovery behaviour so photographers can inspect work without the workspace feeling fragile.
Editing pipeline hardened
The rendering path was strengthened around 16-bit processing, colour, tone, sharpening, grain, and noise reduction so adjustments have a steadier foundation.
Finishing tools expanded
Crop, straighten, histogram, subject mask, detail, and secondary colour controls were brought further into the Developer workspace.
Performance and reliability pass
Preview updates, workspace state, and route changes were tuned so Developer stays responsive while edits are being reviewed and refined.
Interface states refined
Buttons, navigation, warning states, and selected controls were calmed down so green stays as a Handoff accent instead of taking over the interface.
July 13, 2026
Interface system
Handoff Pro gets a pro-level interface rebuild
The app interface was rebuilt around a calmer, more professional Handoff Pro shell, with the full workflow visible across the top and each workspace brought into a cleaner shared design system.
New top-level workflow navigation across the app
Cleaner pro-level visual system applied to core workspaces
Culling, Scheduler, Post Builder, Command Deck, Recall, Settings, and Coldframe brought closer together
Build note
This was not just a visual polish pass. The app shell, shared design system, Inter font support, core workspace layout, and UI checks were rebuilt so Handoff feels more like one serious professional workflow tool instead of separate screens stitched together.
More detail
New app shell
Handoff now uses a more focused top workflow bar, giving Ingest, Cull, Edit, Developer, Galleries, Post Builder, Scheduler, Calendar, Coldframe, Command Deck, and Recall a clearer place in the product.
Shared design system
A new shared interface system was added so buttons, panels, navigation, spacing, type, and empty states feel consistent across the app rather than being tuned one screen at a time.
Core workspaces reskinned
Culling, Projects, Stats, Post Builder, Scheduler, Command Deck, Recall, Settings, Feedback, and Coldframe were brought into the darker, calmer Handoff Pro look.
Workflow fixes kept moving
Scheduler and Post Builder fixes landed alongside the reskin, keeping the real post-wedding workflow moving while the interface was being rebuilt.
Coldframe conversion progress
Coldframe also moved forward with Standard and Lossy conversion work, continuing the careful archive path for finished weddings.
July 12, 2026
Coldframe archive
Coldframe moves from direction into archive build work
Coldframe took a practical step forward with a DNG archive pipeline, compression levels, stronger verification, and a clearer readiness path for future archive support.
DNG archive pipeline added for finished weddings
Standard and stronger compression paths shaped
Verification checks hardened before production use
Build note
This is archive foundation work, not a rushed delete-originals feature. The focus stays on safe conversion, clear evidence, and photographer control before anything destructive is allowed.
More detail
DNG archive pipeline added
Coldframe gained a clearer path for turning finished wedding RAW archives into DNG archive jobs, moving the archive idea from planning into working build structure.
Compression levels shaped
Standard and stronger compression lanes were added so Coldframe can test storage saving without treating every finished wedding archive the same way.
Verification hardened
Archive checks were tightened around conversion evidence and DNG output so Handoff can be more careful before any archive job is treated as ready.
Future readiness planning
A future higher-compression path was mapped with preview-first writing, field planning, and readiness tags, keeping the work organised before it reaches photographers.
July 5, 2026
Archive workflow
Coldframe becomes the archive direction
Handoff's post-delivery archive work moved into Coldframe, a safer archive workflow for finished weddings, storage saving, and compatibility checks before anything reaches photographers.
Dedicated archive workspace added
Original RAW files stay untouched
Compatibility checks before approval
Build note
Coldframe is still lab and candidate work, but it gives Handoff a clearer path for safe post-delivery archiving without rushing risky file conversion into production.
More detail
Archive workspace added
Coldframe was added as the post-delivery archive step, with its own sidebar item and a three-panel layout matching the wider Handoff tool system.
Safe job structure
The archive pipeline now separates RAW scanning, output type, compression mode, destination handling, progress, reporting, and verification gates.
Originals stay protected
V1 keeps source RAW files untouched, disables automatic deletion, and blocks final approval until provenance, verification, and app compatibility are proven.
DNG lab candidates
RAW-mosaic DNG candidates can now be generated for lab evidence, with early candidates rendering cleanly in compatibility checks while production approval remains blocked.
Camera coverage lanes
Readiness lanes were added for Sony, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, and source DNG inputs so support can grow carefully by camera family.
July 2, 2026
Workflow tools
Scheduler, Recall, and tools take shape
The app workflow expanded beyond culling into the supporting tools photographers use after the wedding: scheduling, reusable copy, keyboard control, and clearer workflow setup.
Scheduler planning workspace added
Recall text-expander workflow refined
Tools menu organised around real jobs
Build note
This section covers the workflow tools that help Handoff feel more like a complete post-wedding workspace beyond the cull itself.
More detail
Scheduler workspace
Scheduler planning was built out so finished post sets can sit alongside Command Deck, Recall, and the core wedding workflow.
Recall text expansion
Recall became a three-column text-expander workspace for captions, supplier handles, reusable copy, folder management, imports, and cleanup.
Tools menu organisation
Social moved into the tools area and Command Deck shortcuts were organised as part of the wider workflow pass.
Archive direction refined
An earlier archive route was explored, then removed as the archive direction moved toward the safer Coldframe approach.
Onboarding and cull language
Workflow preferences, offline subscription grace, and clearer cull wording were added to better match the intended Handoff experience.
Cull experiments kept honest
Several preference, geometry, scene, camera-stream, and face-timing experiments were tested, with unstable changes kept out of the main app.
June 25, 2026
Culling accuracy
A steadier picker for real wedding moments
The picker was tuned around finished weddings, not lab examples, so Handoff can better recognise the frames photographers actually deliver.
Improved first-pick decisions inside similar moments
Kept photographer control at the centre of review
Made completion clearer before the next handoff begins
Build note
Built from side-by-side checks against completed wedding galleries and Ray's own review notes.
More detail
Stable picker baseline
Returned the live picker to the strongest finished-wedding baseline after newer experiments did not beat it on real galleries.
Human moment pass
Tested notes-led boosts for hugs, cheek kisses, tears, laughs, cheers, and gesture peaks, then kept the learnings without forcing a weaker model live.
Editorial preference testing
Used reviewed wedding groups to test whether Handoff was choosing frames that felt too clean or camera-aware compared with delivered picks.
Score spread fixed
Replaced flat all-100 picker scores with a clearer group-calibrated spread so review reports are easier to compare.
June 25, 2026
Edit handoff
Cleaner progress before files move forward
Cull completion now waits until reports and handoff markers are properly written, so the app feels calmer at the exact moment photographers need confidence.
Completion actions appear only when the handoff is ready
DNG files can receive embedded handoff markers
Another wedding can be queued while the current cull keeps running
Build note
This came from testing overnight wedding queues and watching where the workflow felt unclear.
More detail
Completion now waits for the real finish
The app only shows 100% once report saving and handoff marker writing have finished.
DNG marker support
DNG files can receive embedded handoff markers while proprietary RAW files still use sidecar XMP markers.
Queue another wedding while culling
Added a running-cull action so another wedding can be queued without stopping the current job.
June 18, 2026
Wedding volume
Overnight queues for more than one wedding
Handoff can recover interrupted culls and keep moving through queued weddings, which matters when the work is left running after a long shoot week.
Interrupted culls are returned to the queue on relaunch
The next queued wedding can start without manual cleanup
Review preview work was reduced while another cull is active
Build note
Built around the reality that wedding work often runs while the photographer is away from the desk.
More detail
Crash recovery for long queues
Projects left mid-cull after an interruption are returned to the queue when Handoff opens again.
Less background competition
Review thumbnail work was held back while another queued wedding is active, keeping the next cull moving.
Faster handoff writing
Handoff marker writing and report saving were moved away from the main interface so the app feels calmer under load.
Sharper progress stages
The visible progress balance was adjusted so reading, grouping, selection, writing, and completion feel less vague.
June 17, 2026
Import flow
Drop in real wedding folders
The dashboard was updated so photographers can drop several wedding folders and let Handoff create one project per folder.
Multi-folder drops create separate wedding projects
Browse can select more than one folder
Nested RAW folders stay allowed with a clear warning
Build note
The goal was to support real folder habits without asking photographers to reorganise first.
More detail
Multiple RAW folders
Dropping several folders now creates one project per folder and moves them through the cull queue one at a time.
Browse supports multiple folders
The Browse flow was updated so photographers are not limited to one wedding folder at a time.
Nested-folder warning
If a dropped wedding contains RAW files across subfolders, Handoff warns clearly but still lets the workflow continue.
Real-world folder structures
The import flow stayed permissive because wedding folders are not always perfectly organised after a shoot.
June 17, 2026
Visual grouping
A faster native grouping core
The grouping work moved deeper into the Mac app, reducing the old dependency stack and making the cull flow feel more native.
Visual grouping runs inside the Mac app
Progress stages were made easier to understand
RAW preview reading was tuned for speed without changing originals
Build note
This was a big step toward Handoff feeling like one focused desktop app, not a chain of tools.
More detail
Visual grouping added
Handoff moved from simpler local grouping to a stronger visual grouping pass for similar wedding moments.
Cross-camera continuity
Adjacent frames from different camera streams can be compared visually so one scene is less likely to split apart.
Speed and progress pass
RAW preview scoring became more parallel while the progress display gained clearer headroom for grouping and export.
Native Mac engine
The main visual grouping path moved into the Mac app, reducing older bridge dependencies and improving the desktop feel.
Subject continuity experiments
Several dark-scene, flash, orientation, and subject-continuity tests were tried, with the strongest honest baseline kept.
June 16, 2026
Review workflow
Manual review became usable
Ray built a manual review workspace so grouping mistakes from the Handoff engine could be corrected, saved, and fed back into the system over time.
Engine grouping mistakes can be corrected by hand
Frames can move, split, and rejoin the right moments
Corrections create cleaner feedback for future tuning
Build note
This was built for Ray's internal review loop: fix the groups Handoff got wrong, understand why, and use those corrections to make the engine better.
More detail
Correction workspace
Manual review became the place to inspect Handoff's grouped moments and correct mistakes before using those results for engine tuning.
Move and split groups
Right-click actions, keyboard split actions, and drag/drop movement made it possible to fix frames that had landed in the wrong group.
Learning signal preserved
Corrected group order and structure could be saved, giving Ray a clearer before-and-after view of where the engine needed to improve.
Testing stayed manageable
Cleanup tools were added so repeated test runs and corrected projects could stay organised while the grouping workflow evolved.
June 2026
Mac app foundation
The native Handoff shell took shape
Handoff became a proper Mac workflow with project creation, saved state, local RAW discovery, and edit handoff.
Native macOS app shell
Saved projects and workflow status
Local RAW discovery and reports
Build note
This was the first version that connected the idea of Handoff to an actual desktop workflow.
More detail
Project flow
Added project creation, saving, loading, and workflow status so each wedding could move through a visible process.
Local RAW work
Added local RAW discovery and cull report persistence so the app could work from real folders on the Mac.
Edit handoff
Added the early export and handoff surfaces needed to move selected work toward the next editing stage.
Feedback surfaces
Added training and review surfaces so photographer decisions could shape later culling work.
May 2026
Prototype
The first Handoff prototype
The project started as ALFRED, a native Mac prototype for the work that happens after a wedding: local files, culling assumptions, and a focused app structure.
Initial Mac app starting point
Local project assumptions
First workflow structure
Build note
The early goal was simple: prove that one focused app could reduce the scattered post-wedding workload.
More detail
Prototype baseline
Created the initial native macOS starting point, initially called ALFRED, before the product became Handoff.
Local-first direction
